Airframe builder Avcorp cutting 100 jobs

Aircraft frame designer and builder Avcorp Industries Inc. said Friday it was cutting 100 jobs, or 12 per cent of its current workforce, due to softening customer orders and slower production.

The Vancouver company said the cuts include management, staff and unionized employees.

Avcorp said it took a $350,000 charge against its last quarter, and another $400,000 will be charged this quarter to cover severance costs.

The company said no employee bonuses will be paid for the years 2008 and 2009 and all management and staff salaries will be frozen at current levels for the year. Avcorp also said all but necessary expenses are being eliminated.
